Remote Learning

The academy will continue to teach our ambitious, broad curriculum if remote learning is required. In the event that small groups of students self isolate at home they will access the same lessons as their peers at the academy through live recording on Microsoft Teams and/or through uploaded resources. In the event that whole year groups or the whole academy are learning at home, the curriculum will continue to be taught as planned wherever possible through a blended approach of live (synchronous) lessons and pre-recorded (a-synchronous) lessons. All subjects continue to be taught with some adjustments to content and format where necessary. Any adjustments to the curriculum are carefully considered to ensure that the every student continues to be challenged and supported appropriately so that they make progress as planned. They will follow their usual timetable each day, working from 8:30am – 3:15pm. All students will complete a combination of live and pre-recorded lessons. For every lesson, students must submit their work through Show My Homework. This includes:

-  A photo or attachment of their written work

-  A quiz on Show My Homework or Hegarty Maths if the teacher has set one

All students attend live learning coaching with their Learning Coach or Head of Year each morning at 9:00. On Fridays all students attend a live whole academy assembly at 8:45.

All students complete a combination of live and pre-recorded lessons.

Year 10 and 11 students’ live lessons:

• Maths: lessons 1, 2 and 3 each week
• Core Science: all lessons live
• English: lessons 1 and 3 each week
• All other subjects: first lesson of each week is live

Year 7, 8 and 9 students’ live lessons:

• First lesson of the week: science, maths, geography, PE
• Last lesson of the week: English, French, History
• Alternating live and SMHW lessons: Music, Drama, Art

Students will receive all instructions, support and learning resources through Show My Homework and Microsoft Teams. They will also need to access other subject specific apps and programmes including Educake, Garageband, Hegarty Maths and Duo Lingo. Students can message their teachers on Show My Homework, talk to their learning coach in their daily live learning coaching lesson, ask questions in the live lessons or call or email the academy directly for support with their learning.

All students in the academy have been provided with a device that they can use to access their learning remotely.  Any student who does not have internet access at home will have this provided by the academy. If you do not have internet access at home that is sufficient for your child’s remote learning, please let the academy know as soon as possible by contacting the office. Students will have feedback on their learning through:

- Live lesson verbal feedback from their teachers

- Automated feedback from quizzes

- Show my homework feedback on submissions

- Virtual parents’ evenings as planned in the academy calendar

-  Weekly phone calls from their learning coach or mentor

In the event that small groups of students self-isolate at home they will access the same lessons at the same times as their peers at the academy through live recording on Microsoft Teams and/or through uploaded resources. They will submit work to their teachers online as well as handing in their written work when they return to the academy.

In the event that whole year groups or the whole academy are learning at home, students will follow their usual timetable each day, working from 8:30am – 3:15pm. For every lesson, students will submit their work through Show My Homework. This includes:

- A photo or attachment of their written work

- A quiz on Show My Homework or Hegarty Maths if their teacher sets one

We will contact parents urgently if their child does not attend their morning learning coaching session at 9:00am. We will also send a daily autotext update to let parents know whether their child has completed or missed any of their lessons/online submissions. Parents will receive one of three messages:

• A well done message for completing every lesson - If your child attended every live lesson, submitted photos of their work on Show My Homework for every lesson and completed the quiz where required for every lesson.
• A reminder message for having completed between 2 and 5 lessons - If your child completed some of their work but missed some of the live lessons, submissions or quizzes.
• An offer of support if your child completed 1 or 0 lessons. If your child missed most of their live lessons, submissions or quizzes.

Students who require additional support in order to access remote learning will be phoned frequently by Learning Support Practitioners and the pastoral team.

Students with special educational needs will access their planned interventions online with relevant professionals.

Students who are below their reading age will access their reading interventions online with learning support practitioners.

Students who require additional support with English, because they are new to learning English, will access their planned interventions online with their usual teacher.

We always value feedback that helps us to reflect on our provision and to improve it for our students. Parents and students will have regular opportunities to feedback on the remote learning provision through surveys.
